I’ll admit – The Great Gatsby is going to have to include some horrifically offensive scene to stop me from naming it my favourite film of the year and I haven’t even seen it yet. Maybe it’s a bad idea to go into a movie already loving it. My obvious bias could easily prevent me from seeing flaws in the script or acting, but let’s be real – it ain’t gonna happen.
The Great Gatsby is written by one of the greatest American novelist of all time, adapted for screen by one of the most creative and admired directors of all time, with an incredible cast of A-list actors. And then there’s the soundtrack. I just don’t see it falling anywhere short of incredible.
Known for his incredible soundtracks from films like William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, director and writer Baz Luhrmann is once again poised to release yet another soundtrack that is destined to be included in ‘best of’ lists for years to come. Putting Jay-Z at the helm as music director and including original music from the likes of Jack White, Florence and The Machine, Sia, and Lana Del Rey, as well as covers from Emeli Sande and Beyonce (which unfortunately is not on the six minute preview clip), the album sneak peek posted today on YouTube by Interscope will have music fans foaming at the mouth.
No one knows pop music soundtracks like Baz Luhrmann. It can’t not be good. The soundtrack for The Great Gatsby is set to drop on May 7 with the film hitting theatres later that week on May 10.
